Statement: I've always been a creative person even as a child. In 1972, while my father shot photos with his new Minolta SLR I was capturing my own 'photographic images' in my mind. My family shared many cross-country trips during my childhood. These trips introduced me to natural wonders, varied landscapes and their juxtapositions. I coveted my father’s camera and continued to take pictures with my eyes.
During my twenties and thirties, I pursued my profession as a cartographer and other creative activities. Natural juxtapositions of light and shadow, textures, and reflections continued to catch my eye and draw my attention. In 2001, I finally had a camera of my own. That day I began capturing pictures on a flash disk, no longer just with my eyes.
I am passionate about the relationships between light and dark or not quite dark; reflections and the reflected; water and sky; shadows; textures and colors. Working with a digital camera allows me to capture fleeting reflections and fading shadows.
I am a geographer by education, a cartographer by trade and a photographer by avocation. I desire to see, photograph and share the world’s unlimited juxtapositions.
