Julie studied ceramics and art history at Western Michigan University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art. Traveling to Washington State, Julie earned her Masters of Art in Teaching from Whitworth College and did additional post graduate work at Eastern Washington University in art and education. Later she returned to school receiving an Associate of Art in Science in television production from Spokane Falls Community College.
Julie has taught art, ceramics and digital imaging in both public and private settings for over 20 years and has been a professional artist since 1980.
She works in a variety of media including ceramics, bronze, pastel, painting and digital computer generated images.
Her design reflects the fluid line and pattern found in the art of the Pacific Northwest and Art Nouveau of the 19th century, while her ideas spring from the mythology of many cultures. Julie describes her creative process as a dialogue between the media and herself. In the negotiation, an image emerges and often so does a story.
